HTC “Metaverse Phone” Arrives Next Month – its First Flagship Smartphone Since 2018

Taiwanese electronics giant HTC is launching a brand new smartphone with “metaverse” features.

Although HTC sold a significant portion of its smartphone manufacturing business to Google in 2018, the company has remained rather quiet on the smartphone scene. Instead, HTC has focused its energy on perfecting AR and VR technology.

Now, HTC is merging its two strengths by releasing a “metaverse” phone, marking its first smartphone since 2018.

Launching in April 2022, HTC has not revealed exactly what it means by “metaverse phone”, but some are expecting AR and VR capabilities.

Reports also point towards the HTC smartphone being a premium offering with top-of-the-line hardware.

The product is not the company’s venture into the metaverse. At this year’s MWC, HTC announced the “Viverse” – an open-source metaverse platform integrating the company’s Vive AR/VR headsets.

In 2018, HTC’s Exodus 1 was marketed as a hardware wallet for cryptocurrency. Since then, the cryptocurrency market has blown up with Bitcoin surging over 800%.
